We are passionate about giving our children a varied and rich experience of school and this passion goes way beyond our classrooms. We take every opportunity to provide enriching learning opportunities for our pupils – our children have access to an amazing range of experiences.
We have a wide range of extra curricular clubs and groups that include sports, performing arts, and debating and these clubs always give children the opportunity to compete and perform; often at spectacular events such as the musical theatre group at Stratford Theatre Royal in July and our Romeo and Juliet at the Kenneth More Theatre. You’ll find clubs and tuition running throughout the week and on Saturdays. Our Summer Sports School was a great success and we’ll be looking to expand holiday provision in the future.
We have developed successful partnerships with schools in Essex, Palestine, Sri Lanka and Japan to give our children a better understanding of how others live and their own sense of place in the world.
Every class topic uses ‘Hooks’ and ‘Celebrations’ to bring the curriculum to life and make the learning irresistible. These hooks and celebrations might be class visits or performances; re-enactments or exhibitions; always something that will excite the children and give meaning to the learning.
We also have many inspirational visitors to the school, this year these have included authors, Ann Fine and Andy Mulligan; Sports people, Stuart Pearce and Christine Ohuruogu; local and international politicians, Stephen Timms and ministers from across the Commonwealth; and of course, visits from our link schools in Sri Lanka and Palestine.
