In 2010, the Mayor of Newham started a pilot for his Every Child a Musician vision in which Sandringham was one of the 11 pilot schools. Over the past three years, ECaM has thrived in our school. It takes place in school on Saturday mornings during term-time for any Year 5 or Year 6 pupil who opts in. Pupils elect to learn the guitar, violin, clarinet or keyboard at no cost to the family. Instruments are provided for the children who learn and pupils get to keep the instrument when they leave for secondary school. It has become quite a social hub with children running a tuck shop and sticking around for the whole morning to play their instruments with each other and jam! They put on regular termly concerts for family and friends to attend. The Sandringham pupils feature heavily in ECaM's film: Every Child Moves On (available on YouTube) - testament to the energy put in to making it such an on-going success by all the pupils and teachers involved.
