British Values

Sandringham Primary and Daycare British Values Statement

At Sandringham we are proud to be a large, multicultural primary setting in Britain's capital city, London. We actively promote and acknowledge British values throughout the whole of our curriculum and spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. We want our children to be reflective, tolerant, active and successful British citizens within the global citizenship context.

We promote British Values and SMSC at Sandringham through:

  • Curriculum, for example: The Geography curriculum- knowing where they live and how
  • Our tailored PHSCE curriculum which children have explicit lessons on democracy, government, tolerance, acceptance of other cultures, religious extremism and diversity.

At Sandringham we are also an active member of the global community and in doing this we aim to create:

  • A positive sense of identity
  • An openness to ideas
  • A sense of interdependence
  • A desire to make a difference
  • A commitment to rights and responsibilities
  • A commitment to peace
  • A commitment to justice
  • A commitment to sustainability
  • Meaningful links with children in other countries and schools
  • The government set out its definition of British values and these include:
  • Democracy
  • The rule of law
  • Individual liberty
  • Mutual respect
  • Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs.

As a school we also understand that we have a responsibility to challenge threats to our British Values as a result of the promotion of extremist views and radicalisation and will deal with any such issues as per our Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy.
