Christmas Pyramids

Children from 6A have been busy designing and then making two 5m high pyramids for Christmas lights this term. After sketching their designs they then attempted to make their designs out of different materials. They experimented with various thicknesses of wooden dowel, wire, card and straws. Using a variety of fixing techniques such as PVA glue, hot glue, blue tac and masking tape, they managed to build scale maquettes of their ideas. However, in reality the fixings they used for the real thing had to be much more substantial, such as 4cm screws and pots full of concrete to prevent the wind blowing the structure over. They mixed the concrete on a ratio of 3:1 and measured and cut supporting timber to strengthen the towers.
