At Sandringham, our Pre-school caters for a total of 34 two year old children. We have provision for eligible two year olds in our morning session running from 8:45-11:45, and 60 children in our afternoon session running from 12:30- 3:30.
Parents can check their eligibility for a government funded 2 year old space by checking the criteria set out on the local council website.
Our Maintained Nursery caters for a total of 120 three year old children. We have provision for 15 hour national offer places for 60 children in our morning session running from 8:45-11:45, and 60 children in our afternoon session running from 12:30 – 3:30. We also offer a limited 8 space provision for families eligible for 30 hours running from 8:45 – 3:30 daily with the exception of Friday afternoons which are charged at an additional rate of £30.
Parents can check their eligibility for government funded 30-hour spaces by creating a Childcare Choices account through the Gov.uk website.
Both Nursery and Pre-school are housed in our Sandringham Central building. A purpose built learning space with its own entrance from Henderson Road. Throughout Sandringham Central, the children have access to a continuous provision of open-ended resources both indoors and outdoors, all year round. We believe there is no such thing as bad weather, as long as children are dressed appropriately to be outdoors. Sun, rain, wind and snow all add a valuable natural dynamic to their learning opportunities.
Throughout a child’s time in Pre-school and Nursery, the staff consistently refer to the Development Matters Standards framework to track children’s progress and plan for next steps in learning. There is a heavy focus on developing children’s social, emotional, communication and physical skills before focussing on gaining knowledge in areas like: maths, writing, reading, technology, music and art.

An age appropriate, topic based curriculum is planned with strong links to core texts in order to expose children to new ideas, concepts and ways of thinking. The staff throughout Foundation Stage are trained to support the children to engage in play opportunities, which have been planned to match individual interests. Children are encouraged to be independent and take on challenges to extend their thinking and develop skills. They are encouraged to be cooperative with their peers and confident to take appropriate risks.
Both Pre-school and Nursery are driven by sets of principles which underpin our practice and provision. These principles draw upon key educational research and best practice for children aged at specific age phases. They inform on how we settle the children during their induction as well as the play based approach to learning. This ensures we have a values lead provision which puts the children at the centre of everything we do.
